Across the Aisle

I tend to find cute styles at decent prices in JCPenny's petite women's department. I suppose my early 40's (that is the target-market, right?) would've been a more appropriate time to reveal that secret...but here we are.

I absolutely cannot wear petite pants, but skirts, dresses and (most) tops are a good fit for me. Many women-sized garments are too long and/or the shoulders are too broad. I find that petite dresses and skirts are perfect in length. Shirts can be tricky in sleeve and bodice width/length, but if I bring both a small and medium into the fitting room, I'm likely to find a good fit.

Take this red, grandma-ish blouse. It's not the modern kind of ruffly blouse you'd find at H&M or Banana Republic. It was seriously designed for a little, old lady. But I love it. It was on the clearance rack for less than $3 if my memory serves me right - uh that was an old-person thing for me to say. Anyway...I love the high collar and blousey sleeves. There is also some pleated detailing down the front of the shirt, not seen in the photo.

Moral of the story: Don't be afraid to shop in uncharted territory. You never know what treasures you might find. It's as simple as crossing the aisle to petites. :)

I really like that top and don't think it's grandma-ish at all!

Okay this outfit is KILLER! I loooove the grandma top, and how you've modernized it with some simple layering (ooooh I just love a high collar!).

And those pants are just exquisite on you... so flattering! I love the pop of pattern in your shoes too. Really reallly great outfit, girl :)
