Go Time

(several weeks ago)
Tee: LA Made &  Sweater: RD Style via Hot Mama
Jeans:  Citizens of Humanity, thrifted via Clothes Mentor
Boots: Frye via Amazon,  Necklace: Francesca's

Just poppin' in to say "Hello".  This season is ridiculously busy for me as I'm sure it is for many of you.  I was hopeful that the cold and snow would hold off a while longer (or never come at all), but Minnesota got completely dumped on over the weekend.  It's pretty n' all, but I'm sore from a mere 15 minutes of shoveling and the driving conditions are preventing me from getting to where I need to go.  Speaking of going - I better since I promised Ollie a walk in the winter wonderland.  Peace out.

Coordinated

Shirt: Ralph Lauren - thrifted,  Sweater: Gap
Jeans:  James Jeans via Hot Mama,  Boots: Frye via Amazon

Ollie's fleece from Posh Pooch

Not so deep down, I'm a matchy-matchy girl.  It took me a long time to comprehend mixing neutrals, colors, and patterns.  Over time and with much studying of blogs and magazines, I learned how to coordinate instead of match.

This also applies to my living accessories.  I love it when Steve and I accidentally match coordinate.  Admittedly,  I sometimes force the issue for holidays and special occasions.  Thankfully, I have a guy who appreciates a good outfit almost as much as I do.

Ollie does not share our love of dress-up.  He completely shuts down when we put clothes on him.  It's really his only flaw.  (Ok, so his flatulence is a major issue...and he's a leash puller...and he's an attack kisser too...whatever, nobody is perfect.)

No matter how much he hates it, I can't help but put him in a cute sweater when the occasion calls for it.  An occasion is any day I realize that my outfit goes with something in his closet.  Yes, my dog, who doesn't like clothes, has a closet (of sorts).  Go ahead, judge me.

Juniper

I was recently made aware of a new shop in Maple Grove, MN.  Juniper is nestled nicely in The Shoppes at Arbor Lakes where all of my favorite stores live in perfect retail harmony.  Now I'm really itching to get back out there - quick, before my favorite items are gone!

I'm a vest FANATIC!

Juniper carries some of my favorite brands like Tulle, Kensie and Scrapbook as well as several local designers.  Items that are easy to wear, yet made drool-worthy by unique details.  Golly, I love that.

This sweater....
......with this dress!

(OMG, paired with my Frye boots!  Love!)

You totally want in on this.  So the generous folks at Juniper have provided you with a discount code (YAY!).  For 15% off your purchase, enter the code "spoilsofwear" online OR if you're in-store tell 'em Spoils of Wear sent you.

Happy shopping!

Giving Tuesday

Shirt: Allen Allen,  Jeans: Joes Jeggings - via Hot Mama
Shoes:  Target

Hey.  I am told today is Giving Tuesday.  A nice follow-up to Black Friday and Cyber Monday, I think.  There are endless FUN ways to give back to our communities.  A few of my favorite organizations are Feed My Starving Children, The ARC Twin Cities, and my local church - Grace Place.  Which reminds me - I have a donation to drop off at Arc's Value Village today.  I love that store.

Ollie and Daisy want you to know that they support the Animal Humane Society and Animal Ark.

Green Bean Casserole

How was everyone's Thanksgiving?  I gorged myself on the most amazing sweet potatoes and cornbread dressing then collapsed into a food coma at 8 o'clock.  I went to work today, but my body wasn't happy about it.

So...cooking isn't really my thing.  It's not that I can't cook, but rarely do I have the motivation to make something entirely from scratch.  Which is why I offer to make Green Bean Casserole, requiring only canned ingredients.  Now I'm going to tell you my GBC secret.  Get ready, it's going to blow your mind.  Ok....

Instead of regular Cream of Mushroom soup, do Cream of Mushroom with Roasted Garlic.  Not all groceries stores carry it, so if you find some, I suggest buying it in bulk.  Why would anyone want to use plain when there could be garlic involved?  Seriously.  Try it.  Your family and green beans will thank you.

Categorizing

Tunic: Kensie  &  Leggings: Matty M via Hot Mama
Boots:  Frye via Amazon

Numerous combinations of form, fashion, and functionality can make a great outfit.  Should I categorize this one under Pajama Alternative or Buffet-Wear

Definitely both.

Striped Truth

Shirt: Gap,  Jacket:  Tulle via TJMaxx,  Boots: Madden Girl
Jeans: Level 99 & Bracelet via Hot Mama

I meant to post this outfit on election day.  I had a few "moderately" political words written, but then my internet went kaput and I couldn't get online for a few days.  It's ok - I don't reserve red, white and blue for national events.  Besides, what's even more culturally American is the day after the election when what we're really grateful for is not having to endure one more campaign commercial.   The appreciation I have for my country is hardly effected by who is in office.  I'm blessed no matter what.  That's the truth.

Back at Gap

Sweater: Vintage, thrifted,  Skirt (similar): Gap, Tee & Tights:  Target
Purse: Coach, Shoes: ? , thrifted via Clothes Mentor

On Ollie = Polo: PetSmart,  Collar: gift from Grandma

I'm always in the mood for bold prints and bright colors.  The Gap has worked it's way back into my heart and wardrobe this season.  Not that I was ever anti-Gap, but some collections speak to me more than others.  Their fun outfits page is good for loads of preppy inspiration.  If they had a line for dogs, Ollie would look this spiffy every day.  His little polo was a rare pet store treasure.  It's so hard to find cute doggie clothes without a goofy logo or saying on it.

The items I couldn't resist:

The items on my wish list:

Ok, so I can't afford the jacket, but isn't it so yummy?  Gah!

Pretty Prairies

Denim Shirt:  Levi's via Hot Mama, Drafting Blouse: Prairie Underground via
hand-me-down (thanks, Ash!), Leggings (in gray): c/o Prairie Underground,
Boots:  Frye via Amazon

The rouching on these amazing leggings gifted to me by Prairie Underground reminds me of the folds and wrinkles that make up Daisy's adorable face.  Both are difficult to photograph in detail.   Both make me very, very happy.

I'm not one to spend a lot on a single article of clothing.  So I surprise even myself at how much I love and will invest in Prairie styles.  Their clothing is organic, versatile, washable, flattering, beautifully unique, and American made.  Last fall, I justified the purchase of a Cloak Hoodie by remixing the heck out of it.  That was the start of my addiction.  So when the sexy Quilted Wings dress went on sale, there was no way I could resist.  Then the spring line brought the Satellite tunic in the yummiest color and I had to have that too.  Now I'm saving for the Long Fey Hoodie - it makes me feel tall and skinny and downright fabulous.

Thank you, Prairie people.  You're worth every penny.

Leaf Piles

Shirt:  Marshall's?
Belt:  Steve Madden via Hot Mama
Jeans:  Paige via Zappos
Shoes:  DSW

Didn't I just wear this?  Apparently not, because the grass behind me is green and deprived of fallen leaves.   Raking leaves is one chore that I don't mind so much (don't tell Steve).   It would be better if I could childishly jump in the leaf pile without fearing an encounter with old dog poop.  Still, it's worth the risk.  Oliver likes to dive in head first, wrestling the pile into submission.  The aftermath makes for more raking, but it's too entertaining to not let him do it.  I expect he'll tutor Daisy on how to tackle leaf piles as well.   Strange that I would enjoy any sort of yard work.  Even stranger that I would be willing to do it over again.

Daisy Mae

Ollie thinks so too.

IT Dog

I am once again using Instagram (spoilsofwear) to document exciting moments in my life.  Watching Steve and Ollie play frisbee in the park thrills me.  Can a flat-nosed pug really catch a frisbee?  Ours can.  It's just one of his many amazing feats.  We finally signed him up for Click & Treat class at PetSmart starting in November, so who knows all that he will accomplish...  I wonder if the famous Uggie might be available to mentor the next IT-dog.  And hello, TLC should totally do a Toddlers in Tiaras: Dog Edition.  With time and discipline, Steve should be able to quit his job to be Ollie's full-time agent.  I'll be the obsessive stage-mom, obviously.

Emmy Importance

Sunglasses: Len, Dress:  Cliche'Leggings:  Hot Mama
Shoes & Slip:  Gap, Belt:  Thrifted

I would love to take the time to write a proper post, but the Emmy's are on and I don't feel like multi-tasking.  If you could see my TiVo queue during peak season, you'd know how important this night is...and I don't even have cable.   Can you imagine if I DID have cable?  I'd never get off the couch.

Yes and No

Tank, Jeans:  Hot Mama
Flannel:  Cliche'
Shoes:  Target

Yes, I do wear my red jeans a lot.
No, I cannot wait to wear them with my new Frye boots.
Yes, I do hope flannel continues to make a comeback.
No, I had not considered dressing Ollie in a red & white striped shirt, doing a "Where's Waldo" in all of my outfit pictures...until this one.
Yes, I do wear my sunglasses as a headband - sometimes all day, indoors.
No, I do not need to be watching Hunger Games for the third time at 12am on a Thursday night.
Yes, I am now going to bed.

Morning Person

Scarf, Sweater, Jeans:  Hot Mama
Shoes:  Eurostep via Famous Footwear
Bracelets:  Mexico

I started a new job this week.  Settling back into office work while maintaining my role as Hot Mama Stylist part-time.  It's about recreating balance and spending more quality time with friends and family.   I feel so blessed to have yet another great employment opportunity come my way.  They're not always so easy to find.

Being back on a consistent schedule, I vowed to Oliver that we would go for a walk every morning.  I'd forgotten how much I love early mornings.  Not that I don't love to sleep in - oh, I DO.  But I also like the cool, fresh, morning air.  I like the quiet.  I like easing into the day instead of being rushed.  I like that days seem longer and fuller.

Simply Reliable

Necklace:  Francesca's
Tunic, Jeggings:  Hot Mama
Shoes:  Payless

I'm keeping things simple these days.  My life and style are constantly evolving and I find myself in a brief state of limbo once again.  This is when I rely heavily on easy basics.  A lot of solid or striped t-shirts, skinny boyfriend jeans, and ballet flats.

This time I switched it up for my new fave: dark jeggings.  They'll get a lot more love once boot season begins.  Speaking of fall footwear, I'm on the hunt for a cognac riding boot.  I want Fryes, but might settle for a good knockoff.  - Might.

Drive-In

The drive-in is date night for the whole family.  We saw The Campaign and Batman.  When I say "we", I mostly mean Steve.  I stayed awake for the majority of The Campaign, and purposely slept through Batman.  It's perfect really.  Steve likes movies, I like sleeping, Ollie likes scavenging for old food on the ground, and we all like being together.

Keep the Prints

Scarf, Top, Jeans:  Hot Mama
Shoes:  Target

Thank goodness fall is on it's way.  Summer clothing is not my thing.  And if I see one more sheer, chiffony, strappy (or strapless), shapeless, impractical shirt...I might just dial up Mark Jacobs - or Anna Wintour - or Mary Kate Olson - or whoever the heck determines what is "trendy" and tell them to please, just stop it.  Keep the prints, loose the silhouettes.  I do not need another dolman or bat-wing sleeve in my closet.  Maybe for the rest of my life.  Amen.

What I DO want is an animal motif sweater in a fun color.  The animal should be a Pug, naturally.  Less than $100, please.

What I DO want are more polka dots.  More chartreuse green, whether or not it looks good on me.  More structured shirts that accommodate narrow shoulders AND boobs.  More washable, snag-proof fabrics.  It's a tall order, I know.

So while the fashion moguls come up with tops that don't make me want to pitch a fit, I will invest in denim.  I continue to embrace color.  Printed denim is even more fun.  I applaud skinny jeans, boyfriend jeans, and their delightful offspring = the skinny boyfriend.  Keep up the good work here, people.
