Glam Pass

Maybe you can't attend Glamorama but still want to participate in the Magic of Giving.  Maybe you have your ticket to the show but want to do MORE.  Or maybe you just have some shopping to do.  Get your booty to a participating Macy's store and buy a Glam Pass.

A $10 Glam Pass will get you an extra 15-20% off your entire purchase, $10 coupon for a future $50 purchase, and a free Luna Mini (if you hurry).  $5 from each pass will be donated to charities nation-wide.

Get Glam

Not going to lie - I'm sort of freakin' out about how I'm going to get "glam" before Glamorama on Friday.  I work all day and will barely have time to change, let alone do anything fabulous with hair and makeup.  I'm seriously considering going to work in pin curls.  Maybe with a little practice, I can master a few of these Lancome techniques:

Macy's Glamorama

Hey Twin Cities!  Are you ready for the fashion event of the year?  I'm beyond excited to spend my birthday at Macy's Glamorama with Sheryl Crow, Cirque du Soleil and a designer runway - eeeeek!  It's all in support of Children's Cancer Research Fund, so feel free to splurge on your ticket - you do NOT want to miss the after-party.

More to come...

Simplify

Shirt: Anthropologie,  Necklace & Shoes: Target
Jeans: Joes via Hot Mama

Shh.  Listen.

Fame by David Bowie is playing.  It’s on the Fun & Funky Pick-me-ups playlist I chose on Songza.  I turned the volume way down so I could concentrate better.

There’s some street noise.

A couple of chatty dudes are hangin’ out on the back patio.

The air conditioner is humming.

My stomach moans in protest for having skipped breakfast this morning.  I tell it to shut-up and be grateful I didn’t deny it coffee like yesterday – that was rough.  I packed a PB&J, but it’s too early for lunch.

Oh! Now it’s Freedom by George Michael.  Turn that up for a sec.

It’s almost impossible for me to break free of distraction, but I'll try.

Earlier today, I observed my dogs in the backyard.  They both trotted out to the sunny part of the grass, turned their little, wrinkled faces toward the sun, closed their eyes, and stood there for several, long seconds.

And I felt jealousy toward these animals.  Because I am a sad, foolish human being.

That moment jolted me from my overly-complicated, mental to-do list just long enough to hear a still, small voice…

“Simplify.”

Pretty sure that’s God speaking to me through the oblivious actions of my pets.  From there, I chose to focus on one problem at time and release the things I have no control over.  Stuff actually got done (crazy-miracle).  I won’t collapse into a puddle of pointless stress when I get home tonight.  And I’ve cancelled my pity-party, since I was going to be the only one in attendance anyway.

Now it's The Way You Make Me Feel by MJ.  I'm going to get up and do a little dance now.

About Oliver

I was slightly hesitant to bring Oliver to work with me yesterday.  He's a bit of a nut.  If I believed in reincarnation (maybe I do to some extent),  Ollie would've been a 7 year old boy in a previous life.  So curious, so much energy, but very dependent.

He devours every meal as if it's his last, yet remains the slimmest Pug I've ever seen.  This might have something to do with his raw diet, or the endless wrestling matches with Daisy.

His affections are aggressive.  He's not trying to hurt anyone, he just loves hard and hopes to be loved hard in return.  If you have the pleasure of meeting him, brace yourself.  If given the opportunity, he will french you ferociously...or sit on your face...or both.

Unlike his adorably devilish little sister, he wants to learn and aims to please.  If there is food at the end of your command, he will engage lazer-focus until he succeeds and the treat is won.  This is why he can catch a Frisbee, turn off a light switch, do side flips, count, and most importantly, pose for pictures ;).

He has better communication skills than I do most days.  Steve and I are pretty sure that his first language is Ton-Ton.  It would not surprise us if his strange sounds evolved into actual words.  We can tell, he's trying.

As it turned out, he was a perfect pup at the store, even luring a few passersby to come in and say 'hello'.  Not sure why I ever doubted him.

Poppy Party

Just a short drive south on Snelling Avenue from Teeny Bee is a quirky, little shop called Poppy.  I met the owner, Jill (great name), a few months back.  She's super friendly and helpful.  We talked about everything from personal style to social media to family.  The atmosphere she creates is pure funness (Urban Dictionary words count) with bright colors, funky prints, and unique brands (example: yellow dress, previous post). She hosts the occasional Poppy Party where there is always a discount to be had.  I will do my best to make this one on Thursday:

How crazy is it that I'm actually considering showing up at 6am?!!

Heat and Olives

Dress: Poppy Togs & Clogs,  Bracelet (similar): Hot Mama
Shoes: Ross, Atlanta

There is much to love about summer.  I know this.  Living on Arctic Circle, USA for 6 months out of the year makes me appreciate it all the more.  However, I am stupefied when it comes to dressing in any less than 8 layers of clothing.

I feel sticky and swollen all the time.  My inner thighs rub just enough to upset me.  My hair gives up all volume and clings desperately to the back of my neck.  My feet are rarely in a state worthy of open-toed shoes. Over-worked deodorant protests in nasty, white clumps under my arms.  Instead of properly hydrating, I drown my summer woes in half a jar of green olives.

Here's what I know:
1. Choose cotton.  Polyester is not my friend.  Repeat.  Polyester is not my friend.
2. Shoes - 1/2 size up.  Accommodates for swelling caused by the heat...and olives.
3. Simple is ok.  No need to wear 3 layers when 1 will do.  For me, easier said than done.

In the outfit displayed here, I finally got it right.  It was a proud day.

Free People Day

Want to know how to rock a flag without being overtly themey?
Free People gets it right every time.  Must be the name.
Happy Birthday, USA.
